Effective and Noninvasive Gum Disease Treatment with the LANAP® Procedure

Gum disease is a serious condition that can damage the gums and the bone supporting your teeth. If left untreated, it can eventually lead to tooth loss. Research has also shown that gum disease may be linked to broader health problems such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes and other systemic conditions.

At Greenberg Dental, Dr. Greenberg uses the Millennium PerioLase® dental laser to treat gum disease non-invasively, removing infection and helping restore gum health without the cutting and stitches associated with traditional gum surgery.

Let's Get Started

Treat Gum Disease Before It Leads to Tooth Loss

Gum disease is one of the leading causes of tooth loss in adults, but with the right treatment, it can often be controlled and reversed. If you have been told you need gum surgery or are experiencing symptoms of gum disease, laser treatment may be an option that is more comfortable and less invasive.

What is Laser Gum Disease Treatment with LANAP?

Laser gum treatment uses a specialized dental laser to treat moderate to severe periodontal disease. Traditional gum surgery typically involves cutting the gums with a scalpel to remove infected tissue and bacteria. Laser treatment takes a different approach. The LANAP (Laser-Assisted New Attachment Procedure) uses a precise laser to gently target infected tissue and destroy bacteria while leaving healthy tissue unaffected.

Because the laser is extremely precise, there is little to no trauma in the surrounding tissues, and there is much less discomfort than with traditional surgery.

How the LANAP Procedure Works

Laser gum disease treatment is designed to remove infection and allow the gums to heal while preserving as much healthy tissue as possible.

During the procedure, the laser is used to:

Target and remove infected gum tissue around the teeth.

Destroy the bacteria responsible for periodontal infection.

Clean the tooth root surfaces to remove buildup beneath the gums.

Stimulate the body’s natural healing response, allowing healthy gum tissue to reattach to the tooth.

The laser’s precision helps protect surrounding tissues and can encourage the gums to heal in a healthier position around the teeth.

Benefits of Laser Gum Treatment

Laser treatment offers several advantages compared to traditional gum surgery:

Signs You May Have Gum Disease

Gum disease often develops slowly and painlessly, which is why many people do not realize they have it until it has progressed.

Common signs include:

Bleeding gums when brushing or flossing

Red, swollen or tender gums

Persistent bad breath

Receding gums

Loose teeth

Pus between the gums and teeth

If these symptoms are present, it is important to have your gums evaluated. Early treatment can prevent more serious damage to the gums and bone.
