Am I a Candidate for Dental Implants?

Dental implants are one of the most reliable ways to replace missing teeth. Many adults who have lost one or more teeth can benefit from them. However, not every situation is the same. The condition of the bone, the health of the surrounding teeth and certain medical factors can all affect whether implants are appropriate. At Greenberg Dental, Drs. Randy and Stephen Greenberg evaluate each patient’s dental situation before recommending implant treatment. Our goal is to determine whether implants are the right solution and how to achieve the most stable long-term result.

Many People Are Good Candidates for Implants

You may be a candidate for dental implants if you:

Are missing one or more teeth

Have a tooth that cannot be saved

Want a fixed replacement rather than a removable appliance

Want to maintain bone and bite stability

Implants can be used to replace:

Are missing one or more teeth

Several teeth

All of the teeth in the upper or lower jaw

For many patients, implants restore chewing strength, prevent bone loss and allow replacement teeth to
feel more natural and stable.

Bone Support Is an Important Factor

Dental implants integrate with the jawbone, so the amount and quality of bone are important considerations. When a tooth has been missing for a long time, the bone in that area may shrink. This does not necessarily mean implants are impossible, but it may affect how treatment is planned. Our doctors use 3D imaging to evaluate:

Bone height and width

Bone density

The position of nerves and sinus structures

This allows us to determine the safest and most stable position for an implant.

Options When Bone Is Limited

Even when bone has been lost, there are often solutions. In some cases, we may recommend bone grafting to rebuild support for an implant.

For patients with multiple failing teeth or significant bone loss, New Teeth in One Day may be an option, as it typically requires no bone grafting ahead of time. New Teeth in One Day allows us to place implants in areas of stronger bone and attach fixed temporary teeth the same day.

Medical Conditions and Implant Candidacy

Certain medical conditions can affect healing and may require additional planning.

These may include:

Uncontrolled diabetes

Heavy smoking

Medications that affect bone metabolism

Certain immune conditions

Having one of these conditions does not automatically rule out implants. It simply means treatment must be evaluated carefully and planned appropriately.

During your consultation, we review your medical history and coordinate care when necessary.

Sometimes a Tooth Can Still Be Saved

Implants are an excellent solution when a tooth cannot be saved. Dr. Greenberg evaluates whether a tooth can be restored before recommending extraction and implant placement. When a tooth can be treated successfully with other dental care, preserving it may be the best choice. Our goal is always to recommend the treatment that is healthiest and most predictable for the long term.
